2H HEAD GASKET
The head gasket is asked to do an extraordinary job under impossible conditions — maintaining a perfect seal inside the combustion chamber while enduring extreme temperature cycling, pressure spikes, and the micro-vibrations inherent to Honda's high-revving open-deck architecture. At 9,000rpm and beyond, the cylinder walls begin to oscillate. The steel inner wall and the surrounding aluminum expand at different rates, creating a dimensional mismatch at the top of the bore. Standard gaskets fail at exactly this point. Spoon's solution was to YAG laser-weld two sheet materials with a 25-micron difference in thickness, positioning the weld line at the center of the 6mm cylinder wall. The result maintains uniform compression across the full temperature range, from cold start to race operating temperature. At first glance, it looks stock. Inside, it is anything but.
